Interactive Whiteboards
In both the elementary and secondary classroom I look at the Promethean Board as a giant manipulative that allows me to keep students engaged in learning. I find interactive whiteboards give me the ability to approach my lessons from a multimodal approach. The Interactive Whiteboard allows me to differentiate instruction, repeat the lesson in multiple modes in order to reinforce concepts, and have students be active participants in their own learning.
Examples of Inspire Being Used in the Classroom:
Mobile Devices in the Classroom
In a division one classroom iPads are a fantastic tool.
I asked the students in my class and this is what they said:
"How do you think having iPads has helped your learning?"
"It helps you spell words."
"You can use them to learn how to count better to 100."
"They help you with math."
"They can help you practice your sight words and word families."
"It helps you with your addition and subtraction."
"We can pick different books to read on the iPad or the iPod."
"We can go on Raz-Kids." (a leveled reading website)
"They are fun and I like going on them with my friends."
In middle school students are more apt to use iPhones rather than iPads, however, they have many of the same uses. Some ways that I have had students use their devices are;
As a Research Device
Google Classroom
Create/Edit Padlet Walls
LearnAlberta
ixl Math
Mathletics
Mathletics
Kahoot
Solaro
Quizlet
Remind 101
As a teacher, it has been a great resource as well. I have used the iPads to record reading conferences and have kids create videos of their writing. I have also used them to record all of my thoughts about a student and assessment results using the Evernote app. This has been especially helpful come report card and student-led conferencing time.

Google in the Classroom
Our district uses Google Apps for education. Students have access to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sites, Google Calendar and many more apps. Recently, Google has launched Google Classroom which allows students and teachers to interact within a Google platform in order to save time, keep classes organized, assign and hand in assignments, digitally mark assignments using Doctopus and Goobric, as well as improve communication between students and teachers.
Here are some links to a variety of Google activities that can be done in the classroom:
